Privacy Policy

Last updated: 04/07/2026

Thesis9 is operated by the Content9 Association. This policy explains what information we process when you visit the site, how we use it, and what choices you have.

We try to process as little personal data as possible. Thesis9 is an information website. We do not require visitors to create accounts, log in, submit personal details, or provide personal information to read our articles.

We use Jetpack analytics to understand how the site is being used at an aggregate level. This helps us see which articles are being read, how people find the site, and whether the site is working properly. Jetpack may process limited technical information such as page views, referring pages, approximate location information, browser information, device information, IP address, user agent, timestamp, and related usage data. This information is processed by Automattic, the company behind Jetpack and WordPress.com.

We do not use Jetpack analytics to build individual profiles of readers. We do not sell visitor data. We do not operate advertising profiles, remarketing lists, or behavioural advertising through Thesis9.

Because we do not maintain user accounts or individual visitor profiles, we usually do not hold personal information about ordinary readers in a form that lets us identify them. This means that, in most cases, we cannot provide an individual visitor with a file of “their Thesis9 data,” because we do not know who they are from ordinary site analytics alone.

Thesis9 may also produce basic technical logs through our website hosting, security, and WordPress systems. These logs may include information such as IP address, browser type, requested pages, dates and times of access, and error information. These logs are used only to keep the site secure, diagnose technical problems, and prevent abuse.

If you contact us directly by email, we will process the personal information you choose to give us, such as your name, email address, and message. We use that information only to read, manage, and respond to your message. We do not add you to a mailing list unless you separately ask to be added.

Our lawful bases for processing personal data are consent, legitimate interests, and legal obligation where applicable. We rely on consent where required for non-essential cookies or similar analytics technologies. We rely on legitimate interests for basic site operation, security, abuse prevention, and understanding aggregate readership, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights. We may rely on legal obligation if we are required to keep or disclose information by law.

Thesis9 uses cookies and similar technologies only where needed for the site to function, for security, or for analytics. Non-essential analytics cookies or similar technologies should only be used where you have consented to them through the site’s cookie controls. If you do not want analytics cookies or similar technologies to be used, you should decline them in the cookie banner or avoid using the site.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block, delete, or restrict cookies. Blocking some cookies may affect how websites work, but Thesis9 is intended to remain readable without creating an account or giving personal details.

We share data only where necessary. This may include sharing limited technical and analytics data with Automattic/Jetpack, our website hosting provider, security tools, and other service providers needed to run the site. We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, court order, or to protect the site from abuse or security threats.

Some service providers may process data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where this happens, we expect those providers to use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

We keep personal data only for as long as needed. Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings and policies of Jetpack/Automattic and our site configuration. Security and server logs are kept for a limited period unless needed to investigate abuse, technical problems, or legal issues. Email correspondence is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the message and any follow-up.

Under UK data protection law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or request a copy of your personal data. You may also have the right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. These rights are not absolute and depend on the circumstances.

Because Thesis9 does not usually identify ordinary readers, we may not be able to locate data about you unless you provide enough information for us to reasonably identify it. For example, if you emailed us, we may be able to search for that email address. If your only interaction was reading articles without logging in or contacting us, we may not be able to identify you from aggregate analytics.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal data, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will be posted on this page.
